What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low-impact, full-body workout that focuses on controlled movement, intentional breathing, and building strength from the inside out. Rooted in core stability and alignment, it helps improve posture, flexibility, and body awareness—making it a powerful tool for both fitness and overall wellness.

Technically speaking, Pilates targets slow-twitch (Type I) muscle fibers—those responsible for endurance, stability, and precision. Movements are designed to be performed slowly and with control, often holding positions for several seconds to activate deep stabilizing muscles, especially in the core, spine, hips, and shoulders. Whether on the mat or a reformer, exercises are structured to strengthen the body evenly, support joint health, and promote balance and flexibility.

Because Pilates is easily adaptable, it’s suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Whether you're looking to tone muscles, improve mobility, support rehabilitation, or simply move better in everyday life, Pilates offers a smart, sustainable approach to fitness—and a path to feeling strong, centered, and confident in your body.

 How to prepare for class

  • Visit our Pricing page to purchase the membership of your choice. We offer drop-in passes, class packs, and monthly memberships.

Once you have purchased your class passes or membership, head over to our Schedule page to book whichever class you desire.

You can also purchase memberships and book classes through the MINDBODY app.

  • We recommend wearing comfortable, form-fitting athletic clothing that allows you to move freely and stretch with ease.

For Reformer classes, grip socks are required for your safety and hygiene.

For Mat classes, you’re welcome to go barefoot or wear socks—whatever feels most comfortable for you.

To protect you and our equipment, we kindly ask that you keep jewelry to a minimum. If you have long hair, we recommend wearing it up in a secure style like a braided ponytail or low bun to avoid any tangling with the machines.

  • For Reformer classes, we recommend that you bring a water bottle, sweat towel, and grip socks. Grip socks are required for workouts on the Reformer machines. If you do not have any, we sell them at the studio for your convenience.

For Mat classes, we recommend that you bring a water bottle and a sweat towel. We provide mats, but you are welcome to bring your own.

We have storage cubbies for you to store your personal belongings during class.

  • Please arrive 15 minutes early to class to ensure that you have time to store your belongings, meet your instructor, and get an introduction to the Reformer machine, if needed.

The studio doors will lock at the scheduled class time.

You are considered late 5 minutes after class begins. Unfortunately, if you arrive late, you will not be allowed to join the class, and your class credit will not be returned.

  • In a Reformer Pilates class, you’ll enjoy a fun, full-body workout using the Pilates Reformer machine—a piece of equipment designed with springs and pulleys to provide smooth, resistance-based movement. Over 60 minutes, you'll move through a series of low-impact exercises that focus on building strength, improving flexibility, and enhancing balance and coordination. Our instructors may incorporate props like overballs to add variety and challenge. Whether you're new to Pilates or have experience, each class is tailored to meet your fitness level, so you feel supported and energized throughout.

  • Mat Pilates classes are a low-impact, bodyweight-based workout done right on the mat, often with fun props like light weights, overballs, and magic rings. In this 60-minute class, you’ll focus on core strength, posture, and controlled movement—sometimes targeting the entire body or focusing on specific areas like glutes, abs, or upper body. It’s a mindful and energizing practice that helps build muscular endurance, improve flexibility, and boost overall body awareness. You’ll leave feeling stronger, more connected, and more in tune with your breath and body.
